The 39 Copa del Rey MAPFRE will be held in 2021

The President of the RCNP, Emerico Fuster, acknowledges that it has been a very difficult decision, but the priority is to guarantee health and safety for all the sailors and the staff.

The 39ª Copa del Rey MAPFRE, which was to be held from the 1rst to the 8th of August has been postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 Pandemia. The organizing committee has taken the difficult decision as the sanitary responsibility is directly linked to the important number of participants of this sport. “The social interest is very high for this event”, explains the president of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, Emerico Fuster.

Therefore this situation has conducted the organizing committee to take no risks in the benefit for all; as this event gathered more than 1500 persons from 30 different countries and more than 3000 daily visits last year.

The Copa del Rey MAPFRE organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma since 1982 is considered as one of the most important regattas of the world. The social and economic impact is also a relevant input which reaches a value of 18 million euros each year.

The organizing committee has taken in consideration all of these aspects and finally has decided that the sanitary responsibility is the most important issue at present due to the pandemic situation. “health for our members, the club’s staff, sailors and all our visitors is the most important issue at present”, says Emerico Fuster. “We are already working on the 2021 edition to make it a better event, if possible, and to keep up the standards of these past 40 years”.
