Joan Cardona and Jordi Lladó, champions of the first RCNP virtual regatta.

The Real Club Náutico de Palma congratulates the eight first representatives of the I Trofeo Virtual of the Asociación Española de Clubes Náuticos from a fleet of 64 boats divided in two categories (over and under 18 years of age) after having completed 16 races (eight two weekends ago, and the following eight, this past weekend)

The first four placed boats in both categories will defend the RCNP burgee in the first virtual regatta organised by the Spanish Yacht Club Association.

Joan Cardona, a Finn Class sailor and present sub 21 world champion, leads in the senior category, and has proved to dominate his smartphone as well as his boat. He has won 13 out of the 16 races and has 26 points over the second placed boat, Atrickytown II. Jimigen is third and Skipper Sailing Club finishes fourth and completes the list of qualified boats for the national competition.

Jordi Lladó, second at the Laser Radial European championship, won the under 18 category. His lead though has been tighter as he won six races and leads with 6 points diference from the second placed boat, Boxinguy_36 of the optimist sailor Xavi Garcia Ollé. Susana Bestard finishes in third place and the young sailor, Roc García Ollé, with his boat Rocky Marciano, finished fourth.

These virtual regattas are held under World Sailing regutlations and will be considered official. Hugo Ramón, a sailing member of the club´s council, explains how this Virtual Regatta video game is proving to be a useful tool to maintain the sailing team and spirit together.

This will also allow the sailors to practice their tactics and strategy skills during the confinement. “We are confined but we are exercising, having video chats and competing in these virtual regattas. All our coaches have a close and permanent telematic relationship with the boys and girls, points out Hugo.”
