Juan Manuel Calafell wins the Trofeo Pro-rigging in the Opti class

Joan Cardona (Laser Radial), Toni Salvà (4.7), Enric Noguera-Rafael Vallespir (420), Teo Matheu and Pedro Cabrer (Snipe), Jordi Lladó (Optimist Sub 13), Emma Vanrell (Optimist Sub 11) and Laura Homar (Optimist D), complete the podium during the regatta organised by the Club Náutico de Palma, where 250 young sailors from all over the islands have assisted tne event.

Juan Manuel Calafell (Club de Vela Port d’Andratx) wins the Trofeo Pro-Rigging 2014 in the Opti class after a very strong Mistral wind condition, always over 13 knots of intensity and gusts up to 22 knots. Aina Colom (Club Nàutic S’Arenal) finished second overall and Marcos Plomer (CVPA) finished third.

No waves but very shifty wind conditions predominated this regatta making the sailors take plenty of decisions and constant manouvers. Today three races have been sailed for the Optis and two for the rest of the classes.

Juan Manuel Calafell proves to be very happy with this victory as it has been difficult for him due to the high level of his opponents and to the complicated and different wind conditions. Juan still has a year to go in the Opti, then he would like to move on to the 420 class.

Still with the Optis, Jordi Lladó (RCNP) won in Sub 13, Emma Vanrell (RCNP) in the Sub 11 and the young Laura Homar (Club Nàutic S’Arenal) won in group D. This Trofeo Pro-Rigging has gathered 167 optis coming from all different local yacht clubs and other islands.

Joan Cardona (RCNP) easily won in Laser Radial, followed by Tomeu Torrandell (CNA) and Bartomeu García (Club Náutico de Portocolom), and Aina Bauza (RCNP) wins in the ladies category. Cardona has sailed both days leading the fleet.

The Laser 4.7 class, finally has been won by Antoni Salva (RCNP) beating his team mates, Maximilian Kimpel and Antonio Sbert, Teo Matheu and Pedro Cabrer (RCNP) win the Snipe fleet of the Trofeo Pro-Rigging over Kai Dost and Xim Enseñat, also of the RCNP.

Enric Noguera and Rafael Vallespir (CVA-Club Marítimo Molinar de Levante) sailed at top level and won the 420 world champions Xavier Antich and Pedro Terrones (CNA), who finisehd third. Second overall and first ladies has been taken by Paula Barceló and Margarita Alba (CNA).

The Trofeo Pro-Rigging has been organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, and the organisation is very pleased this year with the hard job carried out by the Race Committee and all the competitors fair play, as it has not been an easy one.
