The best competitors at the Copa del Rey MAPFRE
In IRC 0, “Shockwave” of George Sakellaris, “Stig” of Danielle Raddavero –second and third places in the last edition, will go for the podium but will have to face and win “Jethou” of Sir Peter Odien, who finished silver at PalmaVela this past month of May.
On the other hand in IRC 1, “Quantum Racing” and “Ran” are favorites after proving they were the fastest at the Trofeo Conde Godó a month ago in the waters of Barcelona. It won’t be easy though to win as theyr are followed by their close rivals coming fast behind, such as “Azzurra” –who finished third at the Trofeo Conde Gondó and second in the past edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE- or even “Gladiator”.
ORC 1 and ORC 2 are the most numerous groups amongst of which we will have the winner of the Conde Godó, el “Rats on fire” of Rafael Carbonell, and the winner of PalmaVela, “Elena Nova” of Christian Plump, in ORC 1. ORC 2, will confront “Movistar” of Pedro Campos with “Airlan Aermec” of Teo Matheu and the “X-Spain” with the skipper Iñaki Castañer and owned by Javier Banderas, who has just won the gold medal in PalmaVela and in the Trofeo Conde Godó. We can also find amongst the important group of entered boats, “Comet” of Luis Blanchar, third in PalmaVela, and “Saiola 10”, which this year ended up third in the Trofeo Conde Gondó.

The X-35 will also prove to be an exciting class with “Margherita”, winner of the past edition of the Copa del Rey and fifth in the past worlds, held in Badalona. Fighting for the Europeans tittle we will also find the “Red Eléctrica” of Javier Sanz, who finished third last year.

Another winner who wants to go for the Copa is the Soto 40, Alegre, but having to win Earlybird (winner of PalmaVela and the Trofeo Conde Godó) and Black Pearl who is also sailing very well this year with a third place in both Mediterranean regattas.

And finally the J80s with “Zhik/Novasail” and “HM-Hotels”, winners of the Gaastra PalmaVela (first and thid places) will face the representative of the south of Spain, “Puerto Sherry”, who finished fourth in PalmaVela and at the Trofeo Conde Godó, and the Olympic sailor, Van der Ploeg with his “Factor Energía”..

With all of this, we are sure the success and fun is guaranteed in this very international 32 edition of the Copa del Rey Mapfre..
