Soft winds in Dragonera break the good rythm of the Volta a Mallorca A3 of the RCNp

Petrouchka III, of Jaime Binimelis, wins the regatta with more tan 9 hours of advantage on the second qualified boat.

During the start of the II Volta a Mallorca A3, organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma with 13 boats on the starting line, the conditions seemed to be good for a quick round Mallorca sail, with a North west wind direction. From then on the wind shifted and the fleet faced some very tactical moments like the one at the Costa Norte (Formentor-Dragonera), with strong winds reaching up to 20 knots of intensity upwind.

After strong wind and sea conditions the regatta was decided at the island of Dragonera and only the boats that were patient enough to await for the light breeze to develop, made it to the finishing line. Petrouchka III, of Jaime Binimelis, lead the fleet during the whole of the regatta, and was able to escape from these poor wind areas and crossed the finishing line in the Bay of palma at 15.06 on Saturday. Only three boats of the whole fleet decided to continue and await for better wind conditions.

Bluamarina, of Pedro Rigo; Marauder, of José Linares; and Pinyol Vermell, of Félix Comas, proved to be patient and waited for the wind to come back. The three of them sailed into the Bay of Palma very close to each other. Being Sunday and even though they knew they had no options for the pódium, they sailed and fought till the last minute. Blaumarina finished second and Marauder third.

El Petrouchka III, a 40' prototype, with Jaime Binimelis, Carles Caffaro and Pep Enseñat, lead and won the race in real time.

Blau Marina, a First 31.1 representing the Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, sailed with Pedro Rigo, Manuel de Pablo and Xavier Avis, was the only boat in the ORC 3-4 group to finish the race.

Marauder, of the RCNP, sailed with José Linares, Miguel Perelló amd Toni Cerdá.
